Most new Shopify product launches fail to reach their potential not because the product is bad — but because they are treated as a single event (press publish and post on Instagram) rather than a planned campaign. A structured launch generates anticipation before launch day, momentum on launch day, and sustained sales in the weeks after. Here is the full playbook.

2 to 4 Weeks Before Launch: Build Anticipation

Start teasing the product on Instagram and email before it is available. Behind-the-scenes content (development process, packaging reveals, name voting) gets your audience invested before the product is even available. Create a “waitlist” or “notify me” page so interested buyers can sign up — these pre-launch subscribers convert at the highest rate of any audience on launch day.

Send samples to 5 to 10 micro-influencers with an embargo — they can post on launch day with an honest review ready. Having multiple influencer posts hit on the same day creates a wave of social proof that feels organic because it comes from independent people.

1 Week Before: Prepare Your Store

Set up the product page with all images, descriptions, sizing guides, and FAQs completed. Add reviews if you have any from samples sent to early testers. Set up your abandoned cart email sequence for the new product specifically. Prepare your launch email (to your full list) and schedule it for 9am on launch day. Prepare your Instagram posts, Stories, and Reels scheduled for launch day. Test the entire checkout flow with the new product yourself.

Launch Day: Make Noise Across Every Channel

Send your pre-written launch email to your list at 9am — lead with the product story, not the product. Post your best launch Reel at 11am (when Instagram engagement is typically high). Go live on Instagram Stories showing the product in detail and answering questions in real time. Post to your WhatsApp broadcast list with a direct link. Enable your influencer partners to go live with their posts. If running paid ads, launch them on launch morning at the same time as your organic push.

First Week: Follow Through

The launch is not over after launch day. Post customer photos and first reviews within the first 48 hours. Share “sold X units in the first day” social proof if the number is meaningful. Send a follow-up email at day 3 featuring early customer reviews. Address any questions or issues that surface quickly and publicly — your response to problems is itself great social media content that builds trust.

Launch a Paid Campaign With Fresh Creative

Once you have real customer photos and reviews (typically by day 3 to 5 after launch), create paid ads using this UGC. Ads that feature genuine customer photos or reviews typically outperform brand-created ads by 30 to 50% for new product launches. Use Meta Ads Manager to target lookalike audiences based on your existing customers — these are the people most likely to respond to a new product from you.

Measure and Learn

After the first 2 weeks, review: total units sold, conversion rate on the product page, top traffic sources, and most common customer questions (which reveal gaps in your product page). Use these insights to improve the product page, adjust pricing if needed, and plan your next launch with better information about what your audience responds to.
