Home and Living: High AOV, Considered Purchases
Homeware and interior products have naturally high average order values — a sofa, a dining table, or even a set of artisan ceramics can reach £200–£2,000+. The challenge: high-consideration purchases require more trust, more information, and longer decision cycles. The opportunity: higher AOV means each conversion is worth more, and referral and aspirational marketing (showing beautifully styled homes) work extremely well in this niche.
Product Page Requirements for Homeware
- Exact dimensions — width, height, depth in both cm and inches. Include weight. Missing dimensions is the number one reason homeware buyers don’t convert
- In-room scale imagery — show the product in a properly styled room with other furniture at scale. A sofa on a white background tells buyers nothing about how it’ll look in their living room
- Material and care information — what it’s made of, how to clean it, durability details
- Delivery information prominently — large or heavy items need clear delivery method (2-person delivery? Kerbside drop?), lead time (made to order 6 weeks vs in stock same week), and delivery area coverage
Shipping Large and Heavy Items
Standard couriers can’t handle furniture, large rugs, or bulky homeware. Options: 2-person home delivery services (Panther, Tuffnells, XDP for large goods), white-glove room-of-choice service for premium pieces, freight pallets for very heavy items. Factor delivery cost into pricing — a £400 sofa with £80 delivery is still a £480 purchase. Free delivery is harder to justify at these order values. Alternatively, build delivery into the product price and advertise “Free delivery.”
Inspiration and Styling Content
Homeware buyers are heavily influenced by aspirational imagery. Pinterest is particularly effective for interior products — users actively building “home inspiration” boards. Create “room inspiration” blog content (“Scandi minimalist living room ideas”), seasonal edits (“Autumn home refresh”), and “how to style” guides that feature your products in context. This content drives organic Pinterest and Google search traffic from buyers at the inspiration-to-purchase stage.
