Why Monthly Maintenance Prevents Expensive Problems

A Shopify store that worked perfectly at launch deteriorates without maintenance. Apps stop functioning after theme updates. Email flows trigger for products that no longer exist. Redirect links break when collections are renamed. SEO rankings erode as competitors publish more content. Monthly maintenance is not optional housekeeping — it is the ongoing investment that protects the revenue your store generates. This monthly checklist takes 90–120 minutes and prevents problems that would take days to fix if discovered after they have been impacting performance for weeks.

Technical Checks (20 minutes)

  • Run Google Search Console → Coverage report. Fix any “URL not indexed” issues that should be indexed.
  • Check for 404 errors in Search Console → Crawl errors. Add 301 redirects for any broken URLs with existing traffic.
  • Test checkout on mobile with a real device. Complete a test transaction.
  • Check PageSpeed Insights on homepage, best-selling product page, and top collection. Flag any score drops above 10 points.
  • Verify all product images are loading correctly (spot check 10 products).

Product and Catalogue Checks (15 minutes)

  • Archive or remove products that have been out of stock for 30+ days with no restock planned.
  • Check that best-selling products have reviews visible on their pages.
  • Update any product descriptions with outdated information (seasonal references, availability claims).
  • Ensure new arrivals are in the correct collections.
  • Verify that sale/discount pricing is correct and not still showing expired promotional prices.

Email Flow Checks (15 minutes)

  • Send a test order and verify: order confirmation, shipping notification, delivery confirmation emails all send correctly.
  • Check Klaviyo for any flows showing errors or zero sends where there should be activity.
  • Review abandoned cart flow deliverability in Klaviyo — declining open rates indicate deliverability issues.
  • Verify that all flow emails reference existing products (not deleted or archived products).

Analytics Review (20 minutes)

  • Compare this month’s CVR, AOV, and traffic to last month and the same month last year.
  • Identify your 5 best-performing and 5 worst-performing products by revenue this month.
  • Check email revenue percentage — if below 20%, investigate flow performance.
  • Review cart abandonment rate — if above 80%, investigate checkout friction.

App and Security Review (15 minutes)

  • Review installed apps — remove any unused apps immediately.
  • Check for pending Shopify app permission requests (new versions requesting additional access).
  • Verify 2FA is still active on all admin accounts.
  • Check Shopify’s security notification email for any alerts.
