Facebook Shop Lets Customers Buy Without Leaving Facebook

Facebook Shop allows you to display your Shopify products directly on your Facebook Business Page, enabling customers to browse and potentially complete purchases without leaving Facebook. For stores with strong Facebook followings and active ad campaigns, a well-set-up Facebook Shop creates a seamless path from ad impression to purchase within the platform customers are already on.

Setting Up Facebook Shop via Shopify

  • Install the Facebook & Instagram channel app from the Shopify App Store (free, by Meta)
  • Connect your Facebook Business Manager account (you need Admin access to both the Facebook Page and Business Manager)
  • Connect your Facebook Commerce Manager — this is where your shop settings, catalogue, and checkout are managed
  • Sync your Shopify product catalogue to Facebook. Products sync automatically within 24–48 hours; subsequent updates sync within a few hours.
  • Set up your Facebook Shop tab on your Facebook Page via Commerce Manager → Shops → Add Shop

Catalogue Management

Your Shopify catalogue syncs to Facebook’s product catalogue. Ensure your products meet Facebook’s catalogue requirements: high-quality images (minimum 500×500px, no watermarks, no text overlay), accurate pricing, valid URLs, and category compliance (no restricted products). Products that fail catalogue quality checks won’t appear in your Facebook Shop or Facebook ads.

Facebook Shop Checkout Options

  • Checkout on website — clicking “Buy” takes the customer to your Shopify store to complete checkout. Recommended for most stores — you control the checkout experience, capture customer data, and avoid Facebook’s checkout fees.
  • Checkout on Facebook (US only currently) — native checkout within Facebook. Reduces friction but Facebook takes a fee and you have less customer data control.
  • Direct Message — clicking “Send Message” opens Messenger for customer enquiries. Useful for high-consideration, high-value purchases.

Driving Sales From Your Facebook Shop

  • Tag products in Facebook posts and Reels to make organic content shoppable
  • Run Facebook Dynamic Product Ads that pull products from your catalogue directly into ads
  • Create Facebook Collections (curated product groups) for seasonal or promotional groupings
  • Feature your Shop tab prominently in your Page’s navigation
  • Cross-promote to Instagram Shopping (same catalogue, set up simultaneously)
